URBANA -- More than 300 people gathered at the I Hotel and Conference Center in Champaign to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the University of Illinois College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) and Paul A. Funk Recognition Award Banquet Monday, April 15.
The Paul A. Funk Recognition Award is the College of ACES' highest honor. It is presented annually to faculty and academic professionals for outstanding achievement and major contributions to the betterment of agriculture, natural resources, and human systems, said ACES Dean Robert Hauser, host of the evening's award ceremony.
The three recipients of the Funk Awards – Robin G. Goettel of University of Illinois Extension, Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant Program, Prasanta K. Kalita of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, and Madhu Khanna of Agricultural and Consumer Economics -- headlined this year's ceremony.
The Spitze Land-Grant Professorial Career Excellence Award went to Mark B. David of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences. Mohammad Babadoost of Crop Sciences received the Faculty Award for Global Impact.
The five recipients of the ACES Alumni Association Award of Merit were: James R. Fraley, ‘87 M.S., Animal Sciences, Cooksville, Ill., Douglas L. Hixon, ‘68 B.S., ‘70 M.S., ‘80 Ph.D., Animal Sciences, Laramie, Wy., Lynette L. Marshall, ‘83 B.S., Agricultural Science, North Liberty, Iowa, Tami Craig Schilling ‘83 B.S., Agricultural Communications, Okawville, Ill., and David D. Shockey, ’80 B.S., Agricultural Science, Ridott, Ill.
The Senior Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching went to Alan C. Hansen of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, while the College Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching went to Robert L. Schooley of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences.
Yuanhui Zhang, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, and Yong-Su Jin of Food Science and Human Nutrition received the Senior and College Faculty Award for Excellence in Research, respectively.
The Senior Faculty Award for Excellence in Extension went to Aaron T. Ebata of Human and Community Development.
Darin M. Eastburn of Crop Sciences took home the Karl E. Gardner Outstanding Undergraduate Adviser Award.
Kevin H. Kline of Animal Sciences won the John Clyde and Henrietta Downey Spitler Teaching Award. The Teaching Associate Teaching Award was given to Dawn M. Bohn of Food Science and Human Nutrition.
The Team Award for Excellence went to the members of the farmdocDAILY Team: Mark A. Althouse, Ryan M. Batts, Paul N. Ellinger, A. Bryan Endres, Gary J. Hoff, Darrel L. Good, Scott A. Irwin, Nicholas D. Paulson, Paul E. Peterson, Dwight D. Raab, Gary D. Schnitkey, and Bruce J. Sherrick of Agricultural and Consumer Economics, as well as Carl R. Zulauf, Agricultural, Environmental and Developmental Economics, The Ohio State University and Chris A. Hurt, Agricultural Economics, Purdue University
The Professional Staff Awards for Excellence were given to: Karl E. Weingartner, Food Science and Human Nutrition for Sustained Excellence in Teaching and Outreach, Troy R. Cary, Crop Sciences, for Sustained Excellence in Research, Vickie L. Jarrell, Agricultural Animal Care and Use Program/Animal Sciences, for Sustained Excellence in Administrative/Management or Technical Contributions, and Todd E. Gleason, Information Technology and Communication Services, for Innovation and Creativity.
Lori L. Snipes of Agricultural and Consumer Economics and Nancy M. Henry of Animal Sciences received the Staff Awards for Excellence. Sarah Y. Adams, Academic Programs, was awarded the Marcella M. Nance Staff Award. The Service Recognition Award went to Leslie L. Domier of Crop Sciences.
The Graduate Student Research Awards went to Kristen R. Delfino, Animal Sciences, and Stephanie A. Liss, Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, for Ph.D. work and M.S. work, respectively.
Louis V. Logeman Graduate Student Teaching Awards were given to Carolyn M. Bonin, Crop Sciences, and Daniel L. Clark, Animal Sciences.
